Mō mātou - About us 

 

Twenty-five years into our 200-year plan, Te Kōhaka o Tūhaitara Trust and Coastal Park provides a range of opportunities to preserve Ngāi Tahu values, retain and enhance rare indigenous biodiversity, and provide recreational and educational opportunities for all people. The Waimakariri District Council has supported the Trust to fund this role for the last six years and this funding continues in their ten-year long-term plan. We currently rely on additional fundraising to fund our work. This is an exciting time to join us as we have a number of business projects underway to realise the value in our land, grow our capacity and deliver our vision.

*Please note the title of this job has changed from 'Ranger' to 'Conservation Projects Coordinator' to better reflect the duties of the role.

 

Te Tūranga - The Role  

  • A strong awareness of and affinity for the needs and aspirations of mana whenua.

  • The purpose of this position is to both support the General Manager with their office work, as well as to support the Rangers with their field work.

  • The position is part of a small, collaborative team. It involves a diverse range of work, and delivery of both long-term projects and daily reactive work.

  • The majority of duties will be in the office, including project management, fundraising, reporting, communications and restoration ecology. It includes the planning of the work programme in collaboration with field staff.

  • The smaller field work component of this position involves a commitment to the restoration of Tūhaitara Coastal Park, maintenance activities and services such as environmental enhancement, enforcement and responding to emergencies. It also supports the education programme run by the Trust, and working with volunteers.

  • The position requires leadership capabilities and team skills to successfully work with the Tūhaitara Coastal Park team and with external contractors, organisations, community groups, casual staff, and volunteers.
